Google is constantly updating its algorithms to make sure its search results are high-quality, relevant, and reliable. They do this by using the E-E-A-T method, which stands for Experience, Expertise, Authority, and Trustworthiness. This update has significantly impacted search engine optimization (SEO) strategies. Understanding E-E-A-T and how it affects your rankings can help you and your SEO agency create a strong SEO strategy.

What Is E-E-A-T?

Google wants to recommend websites that are written by people who have experience, are experts in their respective fields, have the authority to speak on specific topics, and are trustworthy sources of information. Now more than ever, your site needs to follow the E-E-A-T guidelines if you want your page to get views.

Experience

The acronym E-A-T became E-E-A-T when Google added experience to the guidelines in late 2022. The more experienced somebody is about a topic, the more likely it is that their content is trustworthy.

How To Demonstrate Your Experience

There are a few things you can do to show that you have experience, including:

  1. Use author bios so that authors can share their experiences with readers. If you are the only writer on your blog, you can add your experience to your About page. Include how long you have been in the industry, where you have worked, or your results. These real-life examples can help Google recognize that you are somebody with firsthand experience.
  2. Show proof of experience. If you are writing a product review, post original pictures or videos of the product instead of pictures from the manufacturer’s website. This proves that you bought the product and have tested it yourself.
  3. Use experienced language to help Google see you as a knowledgeable authority. You can also write in the first person so that readers know you are speaking from personal experience.

Expertise

Expertise relates to the amount of knowledge that a website has about a particular field or topic. Expertise can include experience, as the more experience someone gains, the more expertise they have. Demonstrating that you have expert-level knowledge and experience about a topic can help your website rank higher in the search engine results pages (SERPs).

How To Show You Have Expertise

  1. Publish useful, original, and helpful content.
  2. Have author bios or profiles that display the writer’s education and certifications. Certain niches, such as medical or financial, may benefit from this more than others because they are in Your Money, Your Life (YMYL) niches. In YMYL niches, Google is more likely to prioritize an expert’s article over an article written by somebody without expertise.
  3. Link to high-quality sources that back up your claims.

Authority

Authority refers to a website’s level of influence in a particular field or topic. Websites with high authority are considered more trustworthy by Google and are more likely to rank higher in the SERPs.

How To Show Authority

Websites that have been around for a long time, have a large following, or have received recognition from reputable sources are likely to have high levels of authority. Here are some steps you can take to build backlinks and gain more authority:

  1. Write helpful and original content that people will want to link to organically.
  2. Write guest posts for websites with more authority than yours, and add your link to the article with the editor’s permission. Backlinks from other high-authority websites can raise your authority. Consider hiring an SEO agency to help you build backlinks this way.

Trustworthiness

Google wants to recommend trustworthy websites to its users. Trustworthiness refers to a website’s reliability and credibility. If your website seems spammy or publishes inaccurate information, then Google will be less likely to rank your page.

How To Show Trustworthiness

  1. Be transparent about who you are, what you do, and what your content is about.
  2. Have clear contact information, privacy policies, and terms of service pages that are easy to reach and understand.
  3. Avoid publishing misleading or deceptive content, such as clickbait headlines or false information.

An SEO Agency Can Help You Increase Your E.E.A.T.

E-E-A-T is one of the key factors that Google uses to determine the quality of the content on any given website. Without experience, expertise, authority, and trustworthiness, your pages are less likely to rank well in the SERPs. You can improve your website’s E-E-A-T by following the guidelines outlined in this post. If you want to improve your rankings and get more people to your website, consider hiring an SEO agency that follows Google’s E-E-A-T guidelines.
